This page contains some of the photos that our members have had published in various magazines, articles etc. It also includes some tips from Stuart on how to take photos with the aim of getting them published in Soft Top Hard Top or some other related publication, website etc.

Stuart's Tips

There is no one definitive answer to having pics published in the magazine photo competition. But I have tried these few ideas, and mostly they seen to work.

The cover shot the Holy Grail we aspire too.

It must be an upright picture with areas top and bottom for the title and text, so that when the text is added it does not intrude into the pictures impact. The picture needs to be eye catching and bold. Think of an unusual angle, with impact. Look at old mag covers to see what I mean .You will not know if you have a cover shot until it is published.

To get a picture on the competition page, again look for impact.

Any fool can take a picture of their car by the curb outside their house, find a photogenic location, it could be scenic, pretty, quirky, or just funny. Watch out for distracting things in the background, you may only have to move a little either side to improve the shot. Try to look for pictures that include people seemingly enjoying themselves. Oh and by the way taking a picture of the reflection in your wing mirror has been done ad nauseum. With a group of cars try to get the lines straight or with a curve/curves that look tidy. Staggered lines and groups work well but letterbox lines do not very often look good. And the best tip of all you won’t get them published at all if you don’t send them in. so get snapping and sending.
